Abstract

The supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) provides financial assistance for food purchasing to low- income and no-income people and families living in the United States. It is a federal aid program, more commonly known as the Food Stamp Program. The United States Department of Agriculture (based on a study of data gathered in Fiscal Year 2010), has lots of summary information available about food stamp recipients, but it is hard to find more detailed information. In this project, I use the data from the web site of PSID " The Panel Study of Income Dynamics. The study from PSID is begun in 1968 with a nationally representative sample of over 18,000 individuals living in 5,000 families in the United States. I analyzed the data in 2009, and there were 8,690 observations for each variable. By analyzing the data, we can find out or predict different kind of questions, for example: • Is there any difference between the number of male and female who receipts the food stamp? • Is the average age of male receiver different than the average age of female receiver? • Is there a relationship between food stamp receivers and their mortgage status? Bibliography GAO. 28 July 2010. 12 April 2012 . wikipedia. 5 April 2012. 12 April 2012 .
