Abstract

This paper explores the properties of the mean life of an item when an exponential density is assumed for the item's life length. Two different tests are discussed, one where the items are allowed to fail while on test without replacement, and the second test where the items are replaced as they fail. Finally the efficiency of the two tests is explored with respect to the number of items that are allowed to fail versus the length of the test.
