Abstract

This paper presents a documented study concerning students' rights and the law with implications for the administrative intern. Many problems resultant from the changing role of the student make it imperative that the prospective administrator be conversant with the interpretation and the application of school district policies and due process of the law.

This study comprises a brief historical background of the civil rights and student rights movements, explanations of legal parameters and due process and interpretations of legal aspects of school policies.

Recommendations include mandatory school law courses for administrative intern candidates and teachers and a state controlled student rights and responsibilities course for all ninth grade students.
