Abstract

This paper presents a case study of the effect of systematic phonics instruction and systematic reinforcement on the reading ability of one intellectually disabled fifteen year old boy. This study way designed to see whether the subject could attain reasonable literacy in a two year period from non-reading status. Evaluation was made along the lines of grade level improvement; the results indicated that systematic phonics instruction with systematic reinforcement resulted in substantial reading improvement.

Recommendations included suggestions for additional research.

Comments

The outdated and offensive language- "retarded" has been removed from the title of this thesis and replaced with contemporary language.
