Abstract
Because of the writer's desire to learn more about the individualized reading approach and the textfilm approach, these two areas have been chosen for specific investigation and elaboration. It was the purpose of this study (1) to discover what opinions certain authorities hold regarding the various approaches to reading, (2) to investigate some recent specific experiments in the teaching of reading, and (3) to make some generalizations concerning the various broad approaches to reading and the specific results obtained through experimentation.
