Abstract
Sunday morning network television interview programs are believed to be important sources for media coverage for the coming week. Yet, almost no research exists confirming this supposition. A search of references to major Sunday political talk shows produced from 1961 to 2009 on the front page of the New York Times, regarded as an elite and influential publication, found these programs deserve much of their reputation for newsworthiness. Thus, television can influence the coverage of an elite print outlet, reversing the usual pattern. The study also revealed NBC's Meet the Press was the most newsworthy of these political talk programs.
