Abstract
In 2012, an article was published in American Entomologist regarding the influence of rhinoceros beetles on Akihabara culture (Hoshina and Takada 2012). However, one critical game was missing from their discussion: Pokémon. With the advent of Pokémon GO, an augmented reality-based cell phone app released in the U.S. on 6 July 2016, the Pokémon craze is once again in the limelight, and this presents a unique opportunity for entomologists and science educators to increase student interest in natural history.
