Abstract
The Patton-Nelson Personal Consumption (PNPC) Tables were last updated in the Fall 2002 (published February 2004) issue of The Journal of Forensic Economics using 2000-01 Bureau of Labor Statistic (BLS) Consumer Expenditure data. In this paper, we provide consumption percentages based on current BLS data. The resulting percentages are applied to total family pretax income to determine the necessary consumption allowance which is subtracted from the pretax earnings of the decedent in arriving at the loss to the estate.
