Abstract

We all likely bring hope and resilience into our work as counselors, but we may discuss and assess them differently based on our counseling theory, client worldview, cultural identities and more. Assessing hope and resilience can help us conceptualize client presenting concerns, resources, risks and protective factors, and even better determine what we and our counseling spaces need to truly offer. Perhaps some clients and students need us to offer more hope and affirm their resilience as they work to grow their own. Isn’t that a big part of our work as professional counselors — to have hope and facilitate adaptability?
