This collection features interviews with former Central Washington University (CWU) students, faculty members, and Board of Trustees members. These interviews were conducted by the Central Washington University Retirement Association (CWURA), which was founded in 1990 “to facilitate the mission and goals of the University and provide for continuing professional, educational and social activities of retired University personnel.” Interviewing began in 1995 and continues into the present. Each CWURA interviewee answered questions about personal background, education and experiences at CWU.

Dr. Karen Blair talks about her early career, coming to Central to teach History, and working with many colleagues who had had taught together since they were young Ph.Ds. in the early 1970s. She mentions becoming chair of history department, and serving as ADCO president for a year. She also discusses exhibits for women’s history projects. Karen discusses the creation of the CWU Archives and her research interest in the history of the University. She mentions town and gown issues, faculty and administration issues, campus changes over time, and tenure and promotion changes. Blair shares some of the research that she conducted about campus history, undertaken to assist in the book authored by President McIntyre's committee of authors for By Teaching We Learn.

David Boyd Interview
David Boyd
David Boyd attended Central Washington University as an undergraduate student. In his professional life, he is best known for applying triage principles to emergency medical care. From 1970 to 1974, he served as EMS Director for the state of Illinois. In this capacity, he developed communication systems, assessment tools, and staffing to improve trauma care throughout the state. From 1974 to 1981, he served as Chief of the Department of Health, Education and Welfare (HEW) Emergency Medical Services (EMS) Division. In this role he worked to create "wall-to-wall" EMS systems throughout the country.
