Abstract

This project study presented a collection of thirteen comprehension strategies that could be used in a whole language, literature-based reading program. This collection includes strategies that could be used with narrative and expository texts. Included in the project were specific examples using children's literature. The purpose of the strategies was to provide activities and procedures that were student-centered in nature, kept language intact, and had comprehension as its focus. Yakima School District's Students Outcomes for reading formed the focus of the project.
