Abstract

Of all the academic skills a child acquires during his early school years, reading is the most widely used. Although there is little disagreement regarding its importance, there have been widely differing views on how it is most effectively taught. Many methods of instruction and many ways of organizing for instruction have been proposed. Much has been written about these proposals and their results.
