Description
Looking south down Sprague Street at the intersection of Fourth Avenue, the original First Baptist Church on left can be seen. After Rev. C. W. Reese helped establish a Baptist Church in Ellensburg in 1887, the First Baptist Church building was erected in 1888-1889 on the southeast corner of Sprague Street and Fourth Avenue. This building was a white wooden structure complete with traditional steeple. The cost of the church building was $3,000. On May 11, 1944, a disasterous fire destroyed the old church which was soon replaced by a large stone and brick structure.Postcard titled: "No. 18 First Baptist Church, Ellensburg, Washington."
