    Description

    Old blockhouse built on the George Shaser (1815-1899) homestead northeast of Ellensburg was constructed from large pine logs gotten from the surrounding hills. The old blockhouse was used by pioneers in self-defense and protection during the Bannock and Piute Indian War in 1877-1878.Originally printed in a local newspaper, the picture of the old blockhouse accompianied an historical account of the area. Handwritten across the photograph is "George Shaser American Fur Trader man Shaser."
