Abstract
This experiment was devised as a possible means of overcoming reading difficulties in children who come from a low socio-economic and cultural background and, at the same time, involving their parents in the reading instructional program. Weekly sessions, involving informal reading activities, were attended by the parents and their children. Those who participated regularly were used as the experimental group, while those who participated at some of the meetings were used as the control group. The purpose of this study was to compare and contrast the growth of reading skills between matched individuals in an experimental group and a control group.
