Abstract

An attempt was made to produce a gradient of amnesia by varying the time interval between footshock and electroconvulsive shock treatment . Rats were trained to swim to one side of a water T maze, treated 24 hours later, and reversal tested 24 or 96 hours after treatment. Results showed negative transfer of training between training and testing, but did not support the state dependency hypothesis that Ss trained and tested in different states would show amnesia since neither amnesia nor a gradient of amnesia were found.
