Abstract

The effects of a token reinforcement program where points were exchanged for free time in an "average" public school seventh grade arithmetic class was studied using two groups.

The experimental group mean scores for percent correct on worksheets were the only ones that made a significant gain. The percent correct on worksheets was the only variable reinforced. There was a significant difference in favor of the control group on percent correct on worksheet tests and rates on worksheets.

There was no significant difference on the pre-test nor on the post-test in achievement as measure by grade equivalents in computation on the California Test of Basic Skills (form Q-3).
