Abstract
The purpose of this study is to identify the origin of the Assiniboine language dialect within the Sioux Confederacy; to trace the tribe's migrations by means of written historical documentations of the early frontiersmen, in order to establish the territorial domain of the Assiniboine; to examine the uniqueness of the Assiniboine culture and philosophy; to examine the legal documents which established the Assiniboine on the Fort Peck Reservation in Montana; and finally, to assess the status of the Assiniboine tribal sovereignty within the Sioux Confederacy.
