Abstract

This paper discusses an alternative to sanitary landfills as a method of disposing of municipal solid waste. The alternative means is a pyrolysis-gasification process for the disposal of solid wastes and the production of energy in the form of a gas of relatively low energy content.

Characteristics of typical municipal solid wastes are discussed. A discussion of the pyrolysis process is included along with other pertinent technical information. A method for utilization of the energy produced from pyrolysis is presented.
