Abstract
The purpose of the study was to gain an in-depth understanding of the necessary experiences graduate assistant coaches must experience before becoming a head coach. Data were obtained through phone interviews with eight Division I Women's Soccer Coaches in Washington, Oregon, and Idaho State. Results indicated there are a number of different experiences and situations that must happen collectively in order to have a positive transition from an assistant coach or graduate assistant coach to a head coach at the division I level. These results represent one of the first empirical accounts of the graduate assistant coaches' experiences in the transition to becoming a division I head soccer coach.
