McManamy Cattle Drive

This video shows riders associated with the annual McManamy cattle drive, which occurs every year in the fall in Kittitas County. The cattle drive has its roots in the 1930s when cowboys would gather to ride the hills and valleys of the Reecer, First, and Nanum creek drainages in search of Hereford and Angus cattle. Joe McManamy, patriarch of the McManamy ranch, participated in the drive for decades.

Robber's Roost Archaeological Excavation

This video shows footage from the Robber's Roost archaeological dig in the summers of 1986 and 1988. The narrator discusses how the dig was coordinated through Youth Services of Kittitas County, what items were found, and what benefits came from the dig. The video includes multiple interviews with people who participated in the project. Due to a two-minute gap in the tape, this video was split into separate parts.

Ida Nason Aronica Memorial
Central Washington University
Ida Nason Aronica was a prominent tribal woman in the Kittitas Valley, Washington state. She was instrumental in preserving the cultural heritage of the Kittitas band during her lifetime (1888-1992). This footage shows a memorial service in her honor.

This film was produced in 1952 by a naval veteran working on behalf of Mid-State Theaters. The film shows life in the towns where the theaters resided, with the "Ellensburg Story" featuring Ellensburg, Washington. This film includes footage of local businesses, college students, schoolchildren, residents, and events--most notably, the Ellensburg Rodeo and Kittitas County Fair. The film includes an introduction appended in 1989.
