Abstract

This paper presents the results of a survey of fifteen open-concept elementary schools in the State of Washington. The survey was conducted by questionnaire. Its purpose was to determine to what extent school districts have involved the teaching staff in planning and prepared the teaching staff for the initial opening of an open[1]concept elementary building in the district. Areas of significant staff involvement in planning included building design, instructional area, and educational specifications. The majority of districts reported training staff in innovative methods. All districts utilized open-concept methods to some degree when the facility opened, with most districts indicating a high percentage of success.
