Description
Cle Elum, Washington Territory, was created in 1886 and became a major northern Kittitas County mining community. By 1889, the Northern Pacific Railroad was well established and Cle Elum became home to miners, loggers and ranchers. This photograph was taken looking north on Pennsylvania Avenue from Railroad Street. The Reed Hotel (or Hotel Reed) on the right was Cle Elum's first hotel.
