Abstract
cleave is a lengthy experimental hybrid poem focusing on the dynamics of an abusive relationship. The piece focuses on how the relationship of the speaker to her abusive partner begins, escalates, and briefly on the relationship's aftermath and ways in which it continues to affect her. The piece is written from a first-person perspective that addresses the speaker's ex-husband. The project primarily explores themes of interpersonal relationships, sexuality, and identity.
