Abstract

This presentation will be discussing the Full-Range Leadership Model (FRLM). The FRLM is comprised of three different leadership styles; Laissez-Faire, Transactional, and Transformational. Laissez-Faire, which means “hands off” in French, describes leaders who are very distant to their followers, delegate their responsibilities to others, and are not interested in their subordinates’ goals or needs. These types of leader are often absent from work meetings and other job-related obligations. Transactional leaders regularly interact positively with their subordinates, to main organizational stability. To maintain this stability, transactional leaders often set goals with followers and use incentives to motivate their followers. Within transactional leadership, there are three subsections which describe the different behaviors used to motivate followers. Contingent Reward is a constructive transaction between leaders and their followers. Management by Exception is a corrective transaction between leaders and their followers. Management by Exception is divided into two subsections; an active and passive approach. Lastly, Transformational leadership creates personal relationships between the leader and their subordinates. This relationship fosters a raised level in motivation and morality. Within Transformational leadership, there are four subsections which describe the behaviors of the leader. It includes Idealized Influence, Inspirational Motivation, Intellectual Stimulation, and Individual Consideration. During my presentation, I will be further defining each leadership style and their subsection mentioned above. I will also be discussing how civilian companies can use the different leaderships styles to create the best leaders in the workplace.
