Abstract
The marvelous thing about leadership is the amount of impact it can have on others and how it can heavily influence the effectiveness of any team. It is important to understand what creates a good leader in order to better equip yourself with the skills and techniques best suited for your people. Using the full-range leadership model by James MacGregor, we will go in depth with transformational leadership in the form of idealized influence. This style of leadership is unique because it focuses on being attentive to followers needs and development, as well as creating personal relationships within a team to inspire and motivate. Idealized influence specifically is a leader who puts their people first and promotes themselves as a positive role model through good character. Often through their actions they are able to gain the trust and unquestioned followership of their people. Marvel’s Captain America is an excellent example of this kind of transformational leadership. If we examine Captain America’s actions and the impact they have on his allied heroes, we can find traces of idealized influence and how his character and care for his team drives the avengers to overcome whatever adversity they encounter. Through this exploration of Captain America and idealized influence, hopefully you can gain insight on your own leadership skills and find ways to improve or ways to apply these concepts to the real world.
