Abstract
A number of locations in the US are increasing in population growth, resulting in new living developments across the board. With an increase in mid-rise or high-rise projects, the demand for construction services involving mobilized tower cranes has peaked. It is evident that maintaining a successful construction project can rely heavily on topics based around the tower crane. Therefore, it is important to focus on the safety, and project management components to a much higher degree when involving a tower crane to the project phase. In this study, it was identified that the construction industry is experiencing a lack of depth involving tower crane topics and knowledge. It was identified in specific, that there are many factors to consider from both project management and safety management perspective’s when implementing a tower crane to a project, resulting in an existing knowledge gap between the two overlapping sectors. These various factors were further developed and analyzed via qualitative interviews with current construction professionals in order to conduct findings and come to conclusions. Construction managers and safety professionals will benefit greatly from reviewing the listed strategies and factors, as this will help them think outside the box. The study will allow current construction professionals to review what others have endured negatively. The goal is to enhance the industries tower crane capabilities and create a more cohesive system between safety and project management divisions. With the erection of tower cranes increasing nationwide, it is vital to increase industry standards and management-based knowledge.
