Abstract
The sense of loss and grief which occurred within the Cle Elum/Roslyn School District when two young persons left the school system's midst as a result of death was studied. At the time of the deaths there were no procedures in place for district personnel to follow in responding to the sorrow and grief which was expressed by the students of the Cle Elum/Roslyn school system. The project was undertaken to understand how grief affects any community and how a school district might better prepare their staff to respond to tragic loss. The results of the study were to be formed into a manual for in-service study and distribution to all persons involved in the Cle Elum/Roslyn educational system. The policy and procedures were adopted by the Cle Elum/Roslyn School District School Board on January 23, 1989.
