Abstract

One hundred fifty-eight (158) superintendents of second class school districts in Washington State were surveyed to determine the selection procedures utilized in the appointment to the principalship. A survey questionnaire was developed and divided into five steps of the selection procedure. The results of the survey questionnaire indicate that the selection procedure varies tremendously and no consistant procedures were found among the school district superintendents surveyed.
