Abstract
The project reviews available materials for teaching poetry and provides a teachers' manual to serve the widely varying interests and ability levels of middle school students. The manual is divided into four sections: (1) Word Play, (2) Generating Poetic Langauge, (3) Poetry Models and IDeas, and (4) Approaching Poetry: Suggested Methods and Resources. The manual's activities supplement existing curriculum requirements; it is intended to reinforce instructional goals by building a base for student writing and appreciation of poetry. A list of resources includes suggested anthologies for teacher and student use.
