    Description

Photo taken in May 1892. A crowd had gathered for the funeral of the 45 killed in the great mine explosion in Roslyn, WA. People arrived at the town's center by horse and buggy from the outlying areas. Newly constructed wood frame buildings provided homes, meeting halls and schools for the early miners and their families in Roslyn. The surrounding pine-covered foothills were stripped of lumber for building and coal mine expansion.
