Abstract
The purpose of this study is to assist the soloist in his performance by: (1) surveying the personality and philosophy of Richard Wagner as pertains to his music, (2) surveying his general musical style, (3) investigating the social development of the Wesendonck Songs, (4) analyzing them stylistically for poetical and musical content, for vocal problems, and (5) ascertaining their significance as lieder.
