Abstract
If an aspect of the English teacher's job is to teach the non-standard speaker a different language (in part, at least), perhaps teachers should examine the process through which the child first learns his language. It would seem logical that this same process be followed as nearly as possible in training the non-standard speaker to speak standard English.
