Abstract
The Project Palatisha Developmental Checklist (PPDC) is a preschool screening instrument that is used by many different tribal Head Start programs throughout the western United States. An item analysis was made on the Cognitive, Fine Motor, and Language subtests of the PPDC. The sample population consisted of 202 children ages 3 through 5 who were enrolled in Head Start programs. The Head Start programs who participated were located on the Hualapai, Hopi, Salt River Pima-Maricopa, Makah, Quileute, Chehalis, and Yakima Indian Reservations. One Mexican American Head Start program, Campesinos Unidos Inc., also participated in the study. The item analysis consisted of computations for determining item discrimination power and item difficulty levels for 37 items in each subtest.
