Abstract
YBO3 :Eu, Gd, is a red phosphor that has several industrial uses such as in plasma display panels and lighting. The host-to-activator transfer efficiency of the phosphors was observed through their respective excitation and reflectance spectra gathered using vacuum ultraviolet (VUV) spectroscopy. These spectra were compared to previous research done on YBO3: Eu to observe the effect that Gd has on the observed transfer efficiency, particularly when the particle size is decreased. The data at this point are inconclusive, but based on the data thus far; it is likely that Gd cannot overcome the surface loss in smaller particle sizes.
