Abstract

This project provides a handbook with activities for use in an advisory program for sixth, seventh and eighth grade students. A review of the literature shows the relationship between positive school climate, self-esteem and academic achievement. Advisory philosophy, program goals, components, and steps for successful implementation are suggested. Program benefits for students, staff and counselors are outlined. Finally, reasons for failure of advisory programs are explored.
