Abstract
This paper presents t he exploration of the r lationship of decoration to t he original statement of the clay vessel. I used five forms with two types of surface enrich ments. Surface decorations included two-dimensional, consisting of monochromatic glazes and engobes ; and three dimensional which provides a texture or tactile surface. I evaluated t he strengths and weaknesses of the vessels thrown i n relationship to the decoration given . I found that some of my surface enrichment fit the vessel well while others detracted .
