Abstract
New mathematics has been part of the elementary
school curriculum long enough to be seriously evaluated by
educators. The problem investigated was as follows: has
the new mathematics improve children's mathematical attitudes
and achievement?
The purpose of the study was to investigate whether
sixth graders who have attended school throughout the modern
mathematics era have achievement levels and attitudes that
are different from sixth graders who attended school when
the more traditional programs were offered.
