Abstract

This project examined preventative and proactive behavior interventions and strategies that maximized learning and minimized inappropriate behavior. The review of current research found that schools were more successful in reducing or eliminating violent behavior when a positive school wide behavior program was collaboratively developed, implemented, and frequently monitored over time. Included is a K- 5 Behavior Intervention Guide that focused on preintervention support for students using various forms of positive recognition, written expectations, and proactive behavior interventions that reinforce appropriate behavior. The overall purpose of the guide was to maintain a safe and positive learning environment for all who attend while ensuring academic and social success for all students.
